Abstract:China produces more than 10 billion tons of industrial Portland cement annually, leading to excessive depletion of natural calcium resources such as limestone. Meanwhile, over 10 billion tons of industrial solid waste is generated in China each year, the majority of which consists of by-product solid waste from the deep processing and utilization of crustal resources. These wastes share similar mineralogical characteristics with the Earth’s crust, featuring high silicon and aluminum content yet low calcium content, and thus require urgent large-scale disposal and treatment. Developing low-carbon cementitious material technologies based on silico-aluminous solid waste and advancing their engineering application represents a fundamental pathway to achieving sustainable development in the building materials industry, and carries great significance for leading the global advancement of green and low-carbon technologies. At present, research and development of cementitious material technologies that balance green low-carbon performance and resource synergy have become a cutting-edge breakthrough research focus. This report summarizes the latest progress of silico-aluminous solid waste-based cementitious materials, and elaborates on the design theory, preparation technologies, performance evolution, novel hydration and hardening mechanisms, standardization systems, as well as technological innovation across the whole industrial chain and large-scale engineering application of disruptive innovative silico-aluminous cementitious materials.

Thanks to Professor Dongmin WANG for the wonderful Seminar!
