Title: Research on the Mechanism of Mineral Additives in Magnesium Phosphate Cement System
Expert: Prof.Bing CHEN
Expert's Profile: Prof. Chen Bing, Ph.D., Full Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and a doctoral supervisor. The research focuses on the development and engineering application of new building materials. He has achieved innovative research results in areas such as low-carbon green cementitious materials and air-conditioning type wall materials, as well as the synthesis and characterization of sensitive cement-based composite materials: (1) Based on the micro-nano pore structure of natural materials (soil and plant straw), he developed wall materials with insulation and moisture regulation functions; (2) Based on the high hydration heat synergy mechanism of magnesium phosphate cement (MPC), he proposed the non-alkali activation theory of aluminum-silicon-iron phases in MPC in industrial waste materials; (3) He revealed the universal permeability-conductive property and resistance-Kaiser memory effect of carbon fiber cement-based composite materials; (4) He established the correspondence between the types of internal damage in concrete and acoustic emission signals.
Main Research Areas and Achievements: Currently, Prof. CHEN has completed over 30 scientific research projects, including 5 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 1 key research project of the Ministry of Railways, 2 Shanghai Belt and Road International Cooperation projects. He has published over 250 academic papers, including 200 SCI-indexed papers, with more than 17,000 SCI citations. He has obtained 26 national invention patents and 1 U.S. invention patent. He has won the Second Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, the Third Prize of Shanghai Natural Science Award, the First Prize of Henan Provincial Education Science and Technology Award, the First Prize of Building Materials Science and Technology Award (Basic Category), the Second Prize of Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award, the Second Prize of China Non-metallic Minerals Science Award (Basic Category), and the Second Prize of China Highway Society (Science and Technology Progress Award). He serves as an Associate Editor of the Construction and Building Materials journal, and as an editor of journals such as Material Science, Applied Science, and the Journal of Building Materials.
Abstract: Magnesium phosphate cement (MPC) is a special type of cement with chemical bonding properties similar to those of ceramic materials. Compared with ordinary Portland cement (OPC), MPC has the advantages of rapid setting, early high strength, high bonding strength, small shrinkage upon drying, and good wear resistance. Due to the significant differences in raw material composition, reaction process, and hydration products between MPC and OPC, the explanation of the mineral admixture action mechanism for OPC does not apply to the MPC system. This study proposes a method for testing the activity of mineral admixtures in the MPC system, investigates the effects of mineral admixtures on the working performance, mechanical properties, and water resistance of MPC, analyzes the influence of mineral admixtures on the hydration products and microstructure, clarifies the mechanism of mineral admixtures (such as fly ash, slag, and microsilica powder) in the MPC system, and provides technical guidance for the low-cost production of magnesium phosphate cement.
